honorsThe Ohio Department of Education has established criteria for students to earn an Academic Diploma with Honors.  Students must fulfill 7 of the following 8 criteria in order to qualify for the Honors Diploma.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 4 credits of Science 
  • 4 credits of Social Studies
  • 3 credits of Foreign Language (including at least 2 credits in each language studied)
  • 1 credit of Fine Art
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280 (excluding writing)

Students may also qualify for a Career-Technical Diploma with Honors.  Students must fulfill 10 of the following 11 criteria to qualify.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 4 credits of Science 
  • 4 credits of Social Studies
  • 2 credits of one Foreign Language
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280 or WorkKeys (6 Reading & 6 Math)
  • 4 credits of Career- Technical minimum, program must lead to an industry recognized credential, apprenticeship, or be part of an articulated career pathway
  • Complete a field experience & document the experience in a portfolio specific to the student's area of focus
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of work based on the student's field experience or a topic related to the student's area of focus that is reviewed and validated by external experts
  • Earn an industry- recognized credential or achieve proficiency benchmark for appropriate Ohio Career Technical Competency assessment

Students who complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program pathway can qualify for an Honors Diploma.  At least 9 of the following 10 criteria must be met to qualify for the IB Honors Diploma.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 4 credits of Science (including Biology, Chemistry and at least one additional advanced science)
  • 4 credits of Social Studies
  • 4 credits of Foreign Language (including at least 2 credits in each language studied)
  • 1 credit of Fine Art
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280
  • Complete a field experience and document the experience in a portfolio specific to the student's area of focus
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of work based on the student's field experience or a topic related to the student's area of focus that is reviewed and validated by external experts

Students who participate in the STEM Program pathway can qualify for an Honors Diploma.  At least 10 of the following 11 criteria must be met to qualify for the STEM Honors Diploma.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 5 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 5 credits of Science (including two advanced sciences)
  • 3 credits of Social Studies
  • 3 credits of Foreign Language (including at least 2 credits in each language studied)
  • 1 credit of Fine Art
  • 2 credits with a focus in STEM courses
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280
  • Complete a field experience and document the experience in a portfolio specific to the student's area of focus
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of work based on the student's field experience or a topic related to the student's area of focus that is reviewed and validated by external experts

Students may also qualify for an Arts Diploma with Honors.  Students must fulfill 10 of the following 11 criteria to qualify.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 3 credits of Science 
  • 3 credits of Social Studies
  • 3 credits of Foreign Language (including at least 2 credits in each language studied)
  • 4 credits of Fine Art
  • 2 credits with a focus in fine arts course work
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280
  • Complete a field experience & document the experience in a portfolio specific to the student's area of focus
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of work based on the student's field experience or a topic related to the student's area of focus that is reviewed and validated by external experts

Students may also qualify for a Social Science and Civic Engagement Diploma with Honors.  Students must fulfill 10 of the following 11 criteria to qualify.

  • 4 credits of English
  • 4 credits of Math (including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 or equivalent and another higher level course)
  • 3 credits of Science 
  • 5 credits of Social Studies
  • 3 credits of Foreign Language (including at least 2 credits in each language studied)
  • 1 credit of Fine Art
  • 3 credits with a focus in social sciences and/or civics
  • Grade Point Average of 3.5 or higher
  • ACT of 27 or SAT of 1280
  • Complete a field experience & document the experience in a portfolio specific to the student's area of focus
  • Develop a comprehensive portfolio of work based on the student's field experience or a topic related to the student's area of focus that is reviewed and validated by external experts
